Q&As

Duty-Free Commission Q&A’s

Why are the commissions not split equally among all Flight Attendants?
Based on duty free commission structures at other airlines, past research conducted by APFA and AA, along with DFASS’ experience with other carriers it was determined that the best way to provide incentives for sales was to split the commission only among the selling and administrative Flight Attendants.

Why are the positions designated through bidding?
Now that duty free sales will lead to income, AA and APFA determined that one should bid for the position rather than be assigned the selling duties once on-board the aircraft.

Can I trade my duty free selling responsibilities without trading my position?
Yes.  You may trade your selling responsibilities to any FA including a galley or Purser.  You would indicate the trade on the Revenue Sharing Form that must be placed in the deposit envelop.

How will I get paid?
DFASS will issue and mail checks to Flight Attendants using the address provided on Jetnet.  To make a change to this address, please go to Jetnet and make necessary changes under Update My Contact Info on the main page.

When will I be paid?
We tentatively expect that checks will be issued in mid-January for sales in November and December.  Another check will be issued after the conclusion of the remaining test months (January 2005- March 2005).

Can we use 1 duty free cart?
Two carts should always be used to help ensure duty free is marketed adequately and that opportunities to earn commission are maximized.  After all, we want this test to succeed so Duty Free Commissions/Revenue Sharing become permanent.

Can I “pick-up” 2 FA’s selling responsibility to earn a 2.5% commission?
No. The commission will be paid to 4 individual sellers.

If we sell $250 do we earn commission on the entire $250 or only the $50 above threshold?
Since the $200 threshold was met, commission will be paid on the entire $250.

Do I earn commission on what I personally sell or the flight’s total sales?
The commission percentages are based on the total sales for the flight.

Who determines the final amount of sales on which commissions will be based?
DFASS will determine the final amount based on the actual monies deposited in the envelope.  This will include cash, traveler’s checks, foreign currency and credit cards.

Where can I track my commission or make inquiries?
We are currently working with DFASS to provide Flight Attendants access to their website.
