2.05.12 – (LAA) – American Announced Voluntary Options to Manage Overage
February 5, 2012
FROM THE CONTRACT DEPARTMENT
[email protected]
This week American announced that they would be opening voluntary options to help manage a current overage of 500 Flight Attendants. This overage is a result of†capacity reductions made to their 2012 plan.
As a result, voluntary options will open this week with an effective date of April 1. We are finalizing the details for the types of options and balloting time lines with the company and will announce them via this Hotline.
APFA President Laura Glading stated, “This announcement could not have come at a more difficult time than on the heels of the ridiculously insulting proposal on Wednesday.†Please know that we will do everything possible to ensure minimal impact on our Membership.”
We have 400 Flight Attendants returning from the most recent overage†leaves as well as Flight Attendants whose Partnership months will conclude in March†and feel confident that this round of overages will be mitigated again by overage options.
FROM THE HOTEL DEPARTMENT
[email protected]
APFA National Hotel Coordinator Kelly Gambello held several conference calls this week regarding the MIA Hotel situation. The company has since acknowledged that their handling could have been better and issued an HI6 apology to all the effected bases.††Due to the bankruptcy filing and the channels that all new bills/contracts need to go through for authorization, there will be no changes to the hotel locations for the month of February. However, the company has agreed to continue seeking improved alternative hotels for March ñ and beyond should we be in the same overage situation.†In addition, the company will issue an HI6 message during the bidding period to ensure everyone is aware of any changes within this market for March.
We will also include a message via this Hotline as Kelly is made aware of any overages or changes for March.†Also, this week we will post the hotels being used for this Temporary Relocation on the Hotel page at APFA.org under the System List and the Amenities Page.†During the bidding period for March, please refer to the Allocations section on the Hotel Page. Hotel information is updated monthly as it becomes available.
The Hotel Amenities page is a great resource for information on all Hotels including discounts offered, Internet availability and other extras.†Log-in to APFA.org, click ‘National Departments’ in the left menu and then Hotel. The Hotel Amenities link is available at the bottom of this page.
