2.16.13 – (LAA) – Merger Announcement
APFA Hotline Update – Saturday, February 16, 2013
Thursday was an historic day for American Airlines and our membership. The merger announcement was a major victory for our union and it is cause for celebration. We should all take the opportunity to appreciate the good news and congratulate each other for a job well done. Without our steadfast resolve, this week’s development would not have been possible.
As APFA President Laura Glading told the media Thursday morning, “It’s been a long, tough road but the result is well worth it. Today’s announcement proves that everyone benefits when labor has a seat at the table. The new American will provide job security and fair compensation and benefits for all employees.”
Unlike the aftermath of major airline bankruptcies over the past decade where cuts from 22% to 30% lasting up to 11 years were common, the American Airlines Flight Attendants will live under bankruptcy concessions of 17% for approximately one year (depending upon when we exit bankruptcy), pop up to the Bridge Agreement with US Airways restoring previous blue book items, then begin bargaining within a specified amount of time for an industry-rate contract.
As a result of the announcement, APFA is now allowed to release a significant amount of information. The previously-confidential documents and others are available in one easily-accessible resource page at our website.

In addition to these documents, APFA has published a letter welcoming our new colleagues at US Airways.

In other news, the APFA Board of Directors Annual Convention will be held in Ft. Lauderdale from March 3rd to the 6th at the Sheraton Hotel. Members in good standing are welcome to attend the open portions of the meeting.
APFA Headquarters will be closed on Monday in honor of President’s Day and open Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m.
