How do you calculate 35/7?
Reserve 35 hours in 7 days (35/7) will be a manual calculation until programming is implemented in October 2015.
A Flight Attendant who believes there is a 35/7 illegality with an assigned sequence may contact Crew Schedule to verify if there is an illegality. The scheduler will review. If the Flight Attendant is illegal, the scheduler will make the necessary adjustment by:
- Adjusting the sequence;
- Swapping the Flight Attendant to another sequence; or
- Placing the Flight Attendant back onto Ready Reserve as necessary.
Prior to making any changes, the scheduler will inform the Flight Attendant and give the option of waiving the 35/7 and retaining the trip. Due to programming limitations, waiving the 35/7 will be based on a trip by trip basis during this interim process.
Beginning August 1, 2015, hours flown in the previous month will be considered for purposes of 35/7 legality.Â
35/7 is based on actual block hours. Please keep in mind it is possible to be paid more than 35 hours in 7 days without actually having a 35-in-7 legality. The following hours do NOT count towards 35/7:
- OEs / ORs / L2
- Voluntary Duty Day Extension (VE)
- Location Delay Incentive (LE)
- DHD time
- Standby (SBY)
- Diversion time (DIV)
- Pay and Credit (G, E, F and P-time)
- ATCÂ (ATC)
- Deicing (DEI)
- Ready for Departure (RFD)
- Ramp congestion delays (RCD)
Only actual hours flown are considered for 35/7, even though you are paid the greater of scheduled versus actual flight time. For calculating future trips, use scheduled flying time only.
As was previously the case, when a Flight Attendant starts a legal sequence but the sequence exceeds the 35/7 in actual operation, s/he will stay legal to complete the trip.
While this interim process is in place, APFA will be the first point of contact for Flight Attendants who believe they have a 35/7 illegality during the first six days of August and September until the company has completed the necessary programming. Between 0900-1700 CDT, Monday through Friday, please contact the [email protected] via email or call them at 817-540-0108 extension 8161. For weekend assistance with calculating the illegality on August 1-2 and September 5-6, 2015 between the hours of 0700-2300 CDT, contact extension 8164 to leave a message for a return call or email [email protected].
How do you calculate 35/7?
First, start with a copy of your HI1 and HI2 if the seven-day period involves time from the prior month. Remember you are adding hours and minutes NOT decimals. Find the column that reflects the actual (ACT) time:
For trips that you have completed, this column will reflect the time you would use for your calculation.
Additionally you would pull up any flown sequence that contains ATC/DEI/RCD, etc. ATC/ DEI/ RCD show underneath the trip.
Â
You would also exclude any DHD legs, any E/F/G/P-time (pay and credit), LE hours, trips picked up as OE/OR/ L2 and DIV pay.
You then add the hours within a seven day rolling period. If the total of the flown hours and the future scheduled hours exceeds 35 hours, then you should contact Crew Schedule to discuss your options.
