PHX-Based Pilot Passes Away During Flight
US Airways Flight 550 from Phoenix to Boston made an emergency landing this morning in Syracuse, NY. According to current reports, Captain Michael Johnston suffered an apparant heart attack while operating the flight to Boston. The First Officer landed the plane safely in Syracuse.
APFA commends the actions taken by our skilled DCA-Based Flight Attendants who stepped into action during this tragic event. Flight Attendants are the first responders on the aircraft. The crew stepped into action and remained in control while protecting the safety and security of our passengers. Passengers of the flight expressed their gratitude on how everything was handled so professionally.
Our most heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the Johnston family. Michael Johnston was a part of our airline family. He will be deeply missed.
