2016 APFA Annual Convention Recap
The 2016 APFA Annual Board of Directors Convention was held last week here in PHX. During the meeting there was much discussion regarding issues faced by the Flight Attendants on a daily basis. The attendees were given an opportunity to listen, and ask questions on a variety of topics presented by the National Officers, National Committee Chairs and Specialists, and the Base Presidents. The annual APFA Budget was approved along with the new budget committee members voted on and approved. The Board of Directors also elected 3 Ad Hoc Members to the Executive Committee, 2 full three-year term members and 1 member to a one-year term to complete the term of a resigning member. Attendees were able to meet the incoming National Officers as well as interact with attendees from around the American Airlines system. The full minutes of the convention will be posted on the APFA website within thirty days by the outgoing National Secretary. I would like to thank the PHX-Based Members that attended and I am pleased to report that one PHX Member was appointed to the Budget Committee and one PHX Member was appointed to the National Ballot Committee.
Valid Passport Requirements
All Flight Attendants are required to maintain a valid passport as one of your required items to be considered legal to fly. Please keep a close eye on the expiration date of your passport and begin the renewal process in plenty of time prior to the expiration of your passport. Be aware that many countries restrict travel within six months of a passport expiration. A good rule of thumb is to begin the process six months prior to expiration. This allows plenty of time for the US Department of State to receive, process, and return your new passport. There is also an option of expedited renewal and several Flight Attendants have been successful in traveling to Tucson for same day processing. However, keep in mind there is added cost for expedited and same day processing.
You must provide the Company notice that you have submitted the documents for a new passport and while the process is progressing you will be restricted from flying to and from international destinations. Once your new passport is received, you must provide the Company with a photocopy of the passport.
Always remember, that once your passport has expired or you fail to provide the Company notice of your new passport, you will be restricted from flying and there is no pay protection of lost trips due to an expired passport. You will be removed from your trips until you have satisfactorily provided notice of your new passport to your Flight Service Manager.
