Volunteer for Wings for Autism PHX
What is Wings for Autism®?
Wings for Autism® is an airport “rehearsal” specially designed for individuals with autism spectrum disorders, their families and aviation professionals. Originated by the Charles River Center, a local chapter of The Arc, Wings for Autism® is designed to alleviate some of the stress that families who have a child with autism experience when traveling by air. The program provides families with the opportunity to practice entering the airport, obtain boarding passes, go through security and board a plane. Wings for Autism® also gives airport, airline, Transportation Security Administration professionals and other personnel the opportunity to observe, interact and deliver their services in a structured, learning environment. This experience is equally useful for families that have a member with other intellectual or developmental disabilities that are concerned about the ability of their family member to travel.

When and Where is it?
Wings for Autism is coming to PHX Sky Harbor International Airport – Terminal 4 on Friday, August 19, 2016.
What Will We Do?
The event will give these children, along with their parent(s) the experience of arriving at the airport, taking the Sky Train, checking in for a boarding pass, going through TSA security, and boarding an aircraft. They will experience all the sights and sounds associated with air travel, including push-back and taxi around the airport.
How Do I Volunteer?
Volunteers are needed in the morning to assist with decorating the event space, this year to be held on the AA side, low A concourse at gates A-11 and A-9. Employees are also needed to assist with participants arriving at the parking location, using the Sky Train, check-in tables, TSA dedicated lines, and in the gate area. Specific assignments will be handed out for everything but decorating at 2:00pm the day of the event.
Flight Attendant Volunteers as well as Pilot Volunteers are also needed. An Airbus A-320 will be used for this event.
