Deferred Flight Waiver Enhancement – LAA
We have secured an enhancement to the current deferred flight language for Flight Attendants who exercise the waiver of home base rest in order to remain legal for their sequence.
Currently, when you waive your home base rest, you are only entitled to a hotel. This improvement gives Flight Attendants the choice of call out pay or a hotel when they elect to waive their home base rest.
This enhancement will take effect immediately.
Zika Virus Company Policy – LAA/LUS
In addition to Flight Attendants who are pregnant, or trying to become pregnant, the Company has recently extended their policy to male Flight Attendants who are trying to avoid any transmission of the Zika virus to their partner who is pregnant, or trying to become pregnant.
Pregnant women in any trimester should consider postponing travel to the areas where Zika virus transmission is ongoing. Pregnant women who do travel to one of these areas should talk to their doctor or other healthcare provider first and strictly follow steps to avoid mosquito bites during the trip.
If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant (includes male partner seeking to avoid transmission to their partner) and do not wish to take your next pairing to the affected area, contact your Flight Service Manager to request personal time off. This will be an excused Personal absence (PER).
Same-Sex Domestic Partner Benefits to be Discontinued on January 1 – LAA/LUS
The current policy at American Airlines of offering benefits coverage for same-sex domestic partners was put in place to provide fair coverage for those that could not legally marry. Since same-sex marriage is now legally-recognized in all states, the Company will be phasing out same-sex domestic partner medical, dental, vision, AD&D and life coverage.
As a reminder, this coverage will be discontinued January 1, 2017. All domestic partners, regardless of gender, will still have travel privileges at the same level as a spouse, with proper documentation of the domestic partner relationship.
APFA HDQ Closed Monday, September 5 in Observance of Labor Day – LAA/LUS
Whether you are celebrating this Labor Day Weekend with friends and family or flying with your colleagues, take a moment to consider the gains realized as a result of organized labor movements throughout history.
Our collective strength lies in our commitment to remain steadfastly focused on solidarity-the basic hallmark that is the fundamental force behind the labor movement.
Have a great weekend!
