Staffing Reduction of PHX Airbus Pilots
On Friday evening, Hector Adler released a Flight Service communication regarding the upcoming changes to the Airbus Pilot base here in PHX. In his message, Hector stated that there are no planned reductions in Flight Attendant staffing at the PHX Base. Your APFA PHX Base Leaders, APFA National Officers and AA Flight Service have all been assured that this news will not impact the staffing numbers here in the PHX Flight Attendant Base.
The reason for the change to the PHX Pilot Base is due to the Company shifting the Airbus aircraft around the system and flying more B-737s into PHX. Based on the current active numbers of PHX Pilots, there will be a possible reduction of approximately 550 Pilots. According to Flight Operations, this reduction is expected to be completed by the end of the summer of 2017.
This latest news is not welcoming for our PHX Family overall. But, the merger of US Airways and American Airlines has created greater stability and profitability within our company, and it will continue to create new opportunities within our industry and our careers for the future. Your APFA PHX Base Leadership stands in solidarity with our PHX Pilots as they make important decisions for the well-being of their families, loved ones, and careers here at American Airlines.
