6.09.20 – PHX Base Brief – July Allocations / Hotel Reporting / COVID-19 / EAP / Aflac® / Unemployment Resources
Tuesday, June 9, 2020
PHX Flight Attendants:
We are a family, and we rely on each other to ensure the safety and security of our aircraft, as well as our industry. As much as we would like everyone to be able to leave our problems and worries at home, that is not always reality. What happens in the world impacts us all.
June is traditionally a month of celebrations like weddings, graduations, vacations, etc. It is also a month of celebrating freedoms, such as PRIDE and Juneteenth. We honor the work of those who fought for those freedoms, from the Stonewall Riots in Manhattan to the peaceful protesters fighting Jim Crow laws in Birmingham. The common thread in all of these celebrations is CHANGE.
APFA stands with the Black Community to denounce violence and racism. You can join us in this cause by visiting these sites:
There are many ways to support organizations that promote change, please continue to encourage, and inspire each other.
July Allocations
American Airlines has started to rebuild the airline’s network of flying, and is doing very well domestically. There has been an increase in customers traveling with us. On average, 110,000 customers were traveling with us in May. Your professionalism and friendliness will continue to ease travelers’ fears. Although we still are not out of the woods, there are some significant signs that our Company is positioned well to weather this storm.
This summer, American is planning to fly 55% of it’s 2019 Domestic schedule. Unfortunately, International travel has still been greatly restricted by the CDC, and we are hopeful restrictions will be relaxed. The Company is projecting that we can resume our PHX-LHR in October of this year.
This month we have a spike in the Reserve numbers in anticipation of Reserve usage over the 4th of July holiday. The total sequence hours for July are up. We have 44,779 sequence hours allocated to our base, which is more than a 42% increase from June!
We are happy to welcome HNL and OGG flying back to the bid sheet. As a reminder, Hawaii still has quarantine restrictions. Although crewmembers are exempt, it is discouraged to bring travel companions on these layovers until the state of Hawaii lifts their restrictions.
Once again, most of our sequences have RON time longer than the preceding duty day.
The Company dropped the priority placed on pairing Flight Attendants with the Pilots last month. This has significantly increased the number of 2-day trips we have. In some cases, duty days have been increased, but most of our duty days are still less than 10 hours.
