September Staffing and Allocations
September is normally a month where there is a reduction in flying system-wide which is attributed to a seasonal pullback. The reduction will represent a 9.7% decrease from the August schedule. Compounding this loss of flying, are the International countries once again imposing restrictions.
The bids were delayed for September to allow allocations to capture cancellations and determine any last-minute schedule changes before they were included in the bid packet. MGA, and GUA were cancelled after the optimizer populated the system-wide flying.
Allocations was able to pull that flying out of the PBS run. That did result in a loss of block hours for Miami. The challenge each month to predict the flying, is like trying to hit a moving target. It is also challenging to predict which countries will restrict air travel as the month progresses.
LHR will continue to operate daily. GRU will also operate daily and all flying will be allocated to Miami. SCL and EZE will be partially flown by Miami. We continue to battle the Company each and every month to secure Deep South flying.
APFA Legal, our Economist, National Officers, and I strategically met with Management Thursday regarding Latin America. The message from our members was loud and clear, protect US jobs!
The Company is projecting the 787 will replace the 777 starting in October. BCN, GIG, MVD, and SCL will all eventually be flown on the 787. Presently Miami has 1339 Flight Attendants qualified on the 787.
