4.13.21 – APFA MIA Base Brief – May Reserve/Canada Pay Protections/Volcano Erupts On St. Vincent

- May Reserve Numbers
- Pay Protections for Flights to Canada
- Volcano Erupts on St. Vincent
All,
May Reserve Numbers
It has been brought to my attention that the tentative Reserve numbers are not accurate. After review, I have determined several mistakes have been made. We will be in contact with the Company to rework the numbers. At first glance, it appears that Flight Attendants who served Reserve in January are considered Lineholders in May, and those senior are labeled as Reserves. We will get this straightened out.
It is inexcusable that the Company did not offer any paid leaves for May. The target number of 189 unpaid leaves fell way short as only 101 Flight Attendants in Miami who opted for the unpaid VLOA. This is what is driving up the Reserves numbers. We are in an imbalance created by this overage. As a result, line averages will be lower, and we will see more heads on Reserve. The Company has indicated that the international flying will return this summer with a notable increase in bookings. This will increase the number of Lineholders, which will in turn right size the PBS run.
Pay Protections for Flights to Canada
I reached out to the Company regarding the Canada cancellations. They will be pay protected since they are cancelled due to COVID restrictions and will be updated on the list of COVID cancellations on Flight Service >Â Crew Resources >Â Scheduling.
Volcano Erupts on St. Vincent
We are still in discussions to achieve a Letter of Agreement (LOA) for cancellations that are related to the volcanic eruptions on the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent.
Thank you for your patience as we work through these issues.
