Turbulence Awareness - LAA/LUS

Last weekend's turbulence related incident aboard Flight 759 from Athens to Philadelphia highlights the importance of protecting yourself by being prepared, as much as possible, for the unexpected.

Seven of the nine crewmembers and several passengers sustained injuries when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence just prior to landing. The crew displayed the utmost professionalism while dealing with the situation and we wish them a speedy recovery.

A Turbulence Task Force consisting of APFA, Flight Service, Flight Safety, APA, AA Medical, Meteorology, Flight Attendants and Pilots, meets monthly to focus on reducing injuries and raising turbulence safety awareness. After exchanging ideas and personal experiences, the group submitted recommendations to prevent injury during turbulence. These Turbulence Best Practices can be found on the APFA Safety Department Page.

As always, APFA EAP-CIRT is available to support anyone involved in turbulence related incidents. For 24/7 support, contact CIRT at (800) 998-8194.
