The Flight Attendants In Recovery (FAIR) Program is a collaborative effort developed and launched in October 2016 by former Optum EAP Manager, Jim Ward and the late Abby Alconcher, APFA National EAP Coordinator.

The initial purpose of the program was to confidentially support Chicago based flight attendants who were recovering from substance abuse disorders. The FAIR Program has grown exponentially from its Chicago beginnings and now has a track record of successfully supporting Flight Attendants in recovery systemwide.

What is FAIR?

FAIR is a resource and support group exclusively for APFA Flight Attendants. FAIR is part of the APFA Employee Assistance Program (EAP) department whose sole purpose is peer support.

Flight Attendants have a unique profession and have a greater chance of sustained sobriety when they take ownership of their recovery, understand their unique occupational challenges, and have the tools to cope with those challenges. FAIR not only allows flight attendants in recovery the opportunity to share their personal experiences on daily flight attendant life, but also offer coping skills and suggestions to deal with lifestyle demands and challenges (both on and off the aircraft).
