3.02.01- (LAA) – Negotiations Resume, Base Representative Election Ballots Counted, Temporary Restraining Order Against TWU Issued on Friday, Delta and Pilots Have Asked for Release from Mediation, TWA Asset Bidding, United Management Meeting with UAL Lab

This is Alexis Boilini, IOR Flight Attendant and member of the APFA Negotiating Committee, with a hotline update for Friday, March 2.

Negotiations resumed today in Chicago with Federal Mediator Linda Puchala. Our discussions centered around Article 11 (Language) and Article 9 (Scheduling). Despite the Company’s continuing rhetoric stating their desire to reach an agreement, we can tell you we have seen no indication of that as of yet.

Talks will continue tomorrow at 0900, and we anticipate discussing crew rest.

Additional dates for negotiations have been scheduled for March 12-14 in Washington, D.C.

We will update this tape as events warrant. Once again, we thank you for your continued support as demonstrated by the results of last weeks Strike Vote.

Please stay on the line for the rest of this week’s hotline message.

This is Leslie Mayo, National Communications Coordinator, with more APFA HotLine News for the week ending March 2, 2001.

A district court judge issued a temporary restraining order against TWU on Friday, at the request of American Airlines, who alleged that the Union endorsed an illegal slowdown at JFK. The American Airlines mechanics’ contract became amendable March 1, 2001. The TRO instructed the union to order its members to maintain normal operations and to “immediately cease and desist all participation in, or encouragement of, any and all slowdown (including excessive write-ups of equipment), sick-out, or other concerted conduct that has the purpose or effect of disrupting normal airline operations.”

Delta AND its pilots have asked for release from mediation, however, the request has not yet been granted by the NMB. This brings them one step closer to a strike which could occur as soon as April 1st.

Jet Acquisitions Group seems to be in competition with AA for the purchase of TWA’s assets. AMR offered $500M in cash and has offered to assume $3.5B in debt. Although Jet Acquisitions refuses to disclose the specifics on their bid, their lawyers have reported their offer to be as high as $6.2B.

United has sent senior management to meet with almost 60,000 UAL labor workers in an attempt to smooth over the expected April 2nd verdict on the merger. The employees want guarantees that they won’t be relocated once United and USAirways merge.
