9.11.01 – (LAA) – AA Verifies that Flight 11 and 77 Were Lost in 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, APFA Phone Watch Activated
This is APFA President John Ward with a HotLine Update. Today is Tuesday, September the 11th.
As you know, it has now been confirmed that two American Airlines aircraft were involved in today’s terrorist attacks. In a statement released earlier today, the Company verified that Flight #11, a 767 aircraft en route to Los Angeles from Boston, and Flight #77, a 757 aircraft en route to Los Angeles from Washington/ Dulles had both been lost. All Crew Members and passengers on both flights perished. Crew Members’ names are not being released at this time.
The government has grounded all flight operations at least through noon tomorrow. If you are scheduled to work today, you are not required to report to the airport. Please stay home. If you are on layover, you should remain at your layover location.
The APFA has been in continuous contact with the Company, and we will continue working closely with Management in the upcoming days to ensure we are responsive to the memberships’ questions and concerns. Unfortunately, at this point however, there are many more questions than there are answers. Please be patient and continue to call this HotLine or visit the web site for up-to-date information on operational issues. The APFA “Phone Watch” has been activated at 1-866-ASK-APFA. Volunteers will be manning the phones to assist you and provide you with the latest information when it becomes available.
I am extremely shocked and saddened over today’s tragic events, and my thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of all those affected by them. Thank you for calling.
