3.16.08 – (LAA) – National Officer Transitioning Into Office, FAA at LAX for Safety Manual Checks, Primary Vaction Awards
This is Leslie Mayo, National Communications Coordinator, with the APFA Hotline for Sunday, March 16, 2008.
The newly-elected National Officers – Laura Glading, Denise Pointer and Juan Barrera, have spent the last two weeks transitioning into their positions along with incumbent Vice President Brett Durkin. These officers will begin their four-year term on April 1, 2008. Laura has been meeting with the Team all week along with some of APFA’s outside experts in preparation for bargaining with AA management.
Next week the current National Officers accompanied by president-elect and Negotiations Chairperson Laura Glading, as well as members of the APFA Negotiating Team and Safety & Security Department will attend the quarterly meeting of the Coalition of FA Unions. The IAM is hosting the meeting with AFA, APFA, and TWU – Local 556 scheduled to attend. Some of the discussion will surround the FAA-sponsored flight attendant fatigue survey as well as the upcoming bargaining sessions with our respective airlines.
The Negotiating Team is planning a membership action to address the upcoming executive bonuses next month. Details will be forthcoming as soon as they are finalized.
From the Safety & Security Department: The FAA will be at LAX between Tuesday, March 18th – Friday March 21st conducting safety manual checks. The most recent revision (#55) should be dated March 14th and already inserted into your manual. Be sure your manual is up to date no matter what station you travel through.
As all FAs are aware, emergency equipment checks must be completed prior to the aircraft door closing so that any used emergency equipment can be reported and replaced as necessary. More information on pre-flight equipment checks can be found in your Safety Manuals.
From the Contract Department: Primary Vacation Awards have been published and Secondary Awards are now available for bidding. Secondary Awards close at 1700 Central Time on March 23, 2008.
We still have 1,198 furloughed members awaiting recall.
