APFA Weekly Hotline Update
for the week ending Friday July 8, 2011
STATE OF THE UNION
“I get it now. Thank you for coming, I’m even more confident in our Union.” “It’s comforting to know that APFA has our back in so many ways.”
These are just some of the comments from attendees of the State of the Union Base Visits. This week APFA President Laura Glading, members of the Negotiating Team and other National Representatives visited Chicago and Raleigh Durham.
Next week we will visit New York and Boston.†Please join us along with your Local Base Leadership, and come with your questions and concerns for a candid discussion and exchange of ideas on our Union’s past, present and future.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to some internal topics discussed during these meetings, this round of visits will not be recorded as weÃve done in the past.

PVD SURVEY
The APFA Vice President’s Department is interested in hearing your thoughts on Personal Vacation Days (PVDs) and the way American awards PVDs, so that we may have a better understanding of how PVDs work, or do not work, for you. A short survey has been posted on APFA.org.
Please take a few moments to log-on to www.APFA.org and complete the survey. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
The survey will be available through Sunday July 17, 2011.
ALSO FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT’S DEPARTMENT
All Flight Attendants should be aware that if you are issued a 1st Written Warning, 2nd Written Warning or Pre-Termination letter under the Attendance Policy, and you feel this action is unwarranted, you must file a Notice of Dispute (NOD). †Note that when you are progressed to any of the steps mentioned, this is considered a disciplinary action and a NOD should be filed to protect yourself.
It is also important to know that the Attendance Policy does not require your Flight Service Manager (FSM) to issue discipline at certain point levels, it simply says they “may” issue discipline. Your FSM must take your individual situation into consideration prior to issuing any type of discipline.
Should you have any questions or need to file a NOD, promptly contact your Chairperson or Vice Chairperson. Your Division Representative is also available to provide assistance. Contact information for your Base Representatives is available on the Base Pages’ section of APFA.org.
