12.02.11 – (LAA) – Message from the APFA President Regarding Bankruptcy
Hotline Update for Friday December 2, 2011
Almost four days have passed since the announcement, and we can expect that with each day will come new rumors and speculation. I know what a trying time this is for all of our Members, and I understand the worry and stress that comes from an uncertain future.
As questions come in to headquarters and through your Base Leadership, we will do our best to answer them as quickly as possible.
Many have asked recently about rumors surrounding base closures, pensions and recent speculation related to USAir.
We understand the anxiety caused by rumors and we want to assure everyone that no decisions have been made at this time.†For now American Airlines will operate as usual and our contract and benefits remain in tact.
We expect speculation as to American’s future from a variety of sources throughout this process, and we will continue to share with you all of the information we have available. This process is neither without precedent nor unforeseen, and we are prepared for every eventuality.
More information about pensions can be found as part of a comprehensive set of answers to frequently asked bankruptcy questions prepared by our legal team and will be updated regularly. The Document can be found on APFA.org in the section dedicated to bankruptcy information.
I will continue to be in touch with you on a daily basis through next week as we navigate through this critical period. Please take a moment to view my video message to the membership that is available on our website or by clicking here.
I ask each and every one of you to stay informed, stay strong and stay unified.
Please continue to visit APFA.org for the most current information.
In Unity,
Laura Glading
