12.14.11 – (LAA) – AMR’s Luxury Mansion
Hotline Update – December 14, 2011
We know that for years AMR executives have been lining their pockets with millions of dollars in bonuses. It was revealed just today that AMR has maintained a $30 million luxury mansion in London’s most exclusive neighborhood – just a short walk from the former home of Princess Diana – at what is being called Britain’s 10th most expensive address.
Let me assure you I am as appalled with this news as you are. It is as offensive as it is wrong.
Our overworked Flight Attendants spend their too short layovers in noisy accommodations that aspire to be called basic, while AMR executives have been resting their heads in the quiet luxury of one of the world’s most exclusive enclaves.
Our Flight Attendants scour the sale racks to cobble together their own uniforms, while AMR executives stroll from their elegant London manse to the tony shops of Knightsbridge.
Our Flight Attendants lack essential meals working long hours in-flight with no break to even buy food, while AMR executives are dining sumptuously, served under antique chandeliers.
If AMR executives had put as much thought and effort into maintaining what was for decades one of the most successful airlines in the world as they did into maintaining their own lifestyles of the rich and famous, American Airlines would not be in the position it is in today.
Their greed has been exposed for what it is. Our Flight Attendants – all our dedicated employees – deserve better. Together we will work to restore American’s stature sacrificed to executive excess.
Over the coming weeks, we will be visiting the bases to provide you with information about bankruptcy. We will share what we know now and what to expect; we will address your concerns and answer your questions. I’ll be joining members of the APFA Negotiating Team, Retirement Department and Legal Counsel. As some of the bankruptcy proceedings may be scheduled suddenly and we can expect last minute changes, these Bankruptcy Informational Base Visits will most likely be announced on short notice.
Right now we have the first three visits scheduled as follows:
Wednesday, December 21 – NYC
JFK International Hotel
14402 135th Ave
Jamaica, NY 11436
1100-1400
Wednesday, December 28 – ORD
