Hurricane Sandy – Last Five Days and Guarantee Protection – October 28, 2012

There have been hundreds of cancellations in the Northeast due to Hurricane Sandy. So far, the company has canceled 860 flights, and counting. In some cases, IPE Training has also been canceled. If you are on origination or mid-sequence, please check your schedule to confirm your flight is departing.

The Contractual Language for your “Last Trip in the Last Five (5) Days” Pay Protection remains unchanged and can be found in Article 9.P.6 and I.9.P.6. If you qualify for Last Five (5) Day Pay Protection, you must place your name on the MU list for the Obligation Period in your HI1 header and attempt to recover such flying through Make-Up.

If a Flight Attendant opts to participate in the “Merged Make-Up” [HISEND ONLY] round at 12:00 Noon, and is awarded flying, s/he will be considered as fulfilling their obligation for pay protection. If you decline MU flying, you will lose the pay protection for the sequence, but your guarantee will remain intact. Additionally, you do not have to accept carry-over sequences, since carry-over time is not currently protected and your obligation concludes at midnight in the current month.

During the last five days of the month, if you are at or below guarantee (70 hours) after a Misconnection/Illegality/Cancellation (MIC), your guarantee will remain at 70 hours and are under NO obligation to put yourself on the Make Up list.  You may, however, put yourself on the Make Up list if the last five days pay protection would restore your hours to above guarantee (70 hours).
