AA-US Airways Antitrust Lawsuit Court Date Set for November 25, 2013
APFA is happy to report that the judge assigned to the DOJ vs AA-US Airways merger lawsuit, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, set a trial date for November 25, 2013. Read the text of Judge Kollar-Kotelly’s order here

Meanwhile in bankruptcy court, APFA is hopeful that Judge Sean Lane will confirm the AA Plan of Reorganization (“POR”) on the next scheduled trial date in his court set for September 12th.

APFA is pleased with the progress related to the AA-US lawsuit preparation and scheduling. The antitrust trial will be completed in mid-December. It is  possible that a decision will be rendered by the judge prior to the end of the year or soon thereafter.

We will continue to keep the membership apprised of all events surrounding the merger as they occur. For up-to-date merger/DOJ lawsuit information add your name to our mailing list here.

Adjacent Base Flying
APFA is pleased to announce that effective September 9, 2013, MIA and IMA will be the next two bases offered Adjacent Base flying. “AB” flying, allows a regularly-scheduled flight attendant at MIA/IMA and LAX/LAX-I, who is qualified in both operations, to request a trip at the adjacent base. Adjacent base flying is subject to the company’s option. Open time will be awarded to FAs at the respective base before it is offered to FAs at the adjacent base. The option will be offered every day in September at these bases to test the level of interest. For more information, click here and scroll to the Adjacent Base information at the bottom of the page.

Availability Flight Attendants, HS Codes, AV Codes and Who Calls Whom
When an AVBL FA participates in the HISEND round and is awarded a trip with the HS code, there is no need for first-party confirmation of the assignment with Crew Scheduling. On the other hand, if the FA is assigned a trip at 1330 with the AV code, Crew Scheduling will make a call and must have first party contact with the FA to confirm the assignment.

FA Manual – Bulletin 22 Filing Date Extension Notice
A recent AA-issued FA Manual bulletin did not allow for ample time for flight attendants to incorporate into their safety manuals. Therefore, APFA worked with AA and the FAA and an extension has been granted for the filing date. This extension applies to Bulletin #22 specifically. All Flight Attendants will be required to have Bulletin #22 in their FA Safety Manuals no later than September 4, 2013.

AMR Event Reports
If you encounter a passenger misconduct incident or any security concern on board please remember to submit a report to the AMR Event Reporting System as soon as possible following the end of your duty day or sequence. The AMR Event report generates an alert system for all appropriate departments at AA, including APFA, so that a response by both the company and your union to the event may occur in a timely manner. The report also allows for events to be saved within a data base for future reference.

Investigations on passenger misconduct events and security events cannot proceed forward without an AMR Event Report submitted by each working flight attendant on the crew list. Even if you were not directly involved in the incident, it is necessary to submit a report stating your level of involvement. You may access the link for the AMR Event Reporting System via the Flight Service web site under the link Safety/Security. If you have any questions please contact the APFA Safety & Security Department at [email protected].

Were You in AA New Hire Training Between 1978 – 1985?
APFA is looking for information on the following specific classes: 86-22, 23, 30; 87-08, 09, 10, 21 and 41; 88-20, 29, 30, 34, 35, 36, 37 & 39; 89-07, 30, 37; 91-08 & 49. APFA currently has class information and rosters for more than 700 new hire classes over the last 50 years. Many of the new hire AA training rosters for these specific years/classes did not include employee numbers. Some AA rosters have been damaged and are not entirely legible. If you were hired during these years please access the Flight Attendant Initial Training Information Form via this link and provide the information requested. APFA will use this information to help us verify our records and prepare for the eventual integration of our seniority list with the US Airways’ seniority list.  Please complete this form by September 9, 2013.

APFA has not yet determined how Occupational Seniority dates should be adjusted with regard to the AA-US Airways merger.  However, it is important to note that, as we stated in last week’s hotline message, any adjustment will not result in a change to the relative order of APFA’s current list.

W-9 and the Equity Claim
If you missed the deadline to certify your W-9, AA has chosen to extend the deadline indefinitely. However, your W-9 must be completed prior to the distribution of shares, which won’t happen until AA exits bankruptcy.

To fill out your W-9, visit www.retireonline.com. If you already completed your W-9 with Computershare, either recently or in connection with a different distribution, there is no need to re-certify since W-9s do not expire. Visit APFA’s equity claim page or visit the Equity Hub, available on the Time and Money page of the New Jetnet’s People space.

APFA Thanks Sen. Hirono (D-HI)
APFA would like to thank Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI)  for her continued support of flight attendants. Senator Hirono was the first recipient of APFA’s Edward M. Kennedy Award for Public Service. Senator Hirono’s support of the 2012 FAA Reauthorization Bill was instrumental in setting a mandatory timeline for implementation of workplace and safety oversight for cabin crew members by the FAA/OSHA.
