Merger Update
AA and US Airways continue to prepare for the Antitrust hearings set to begin on November 25, 2013. On Monday, AA and US Airways’ unions requested permission to file Amicus (friend of the court) briefs in support of the merger. In September, the unions filed a separate brief in support of an early trial date. Today, mayors from seven of the nation’s largest cities – Dallas, Ft. Worth, Miami, Charlotte, Phoenix, Philadelphia and Chicago – sent a joint letter to US Attorney General Holder requesting that he reconsider the DOJ’s “ill-conceived” efforts to block the merger. Click here for more news on that subject.
A thorough explanation of the lawsuit will be presented at the APFA Roadshows. Check the dates below and try to join us at one of the nine remaining meetings over the next 4 weeks.
DOJ Trial Date Motions and Communication
- Unions Motion To File Amici Briefs – 10.21.13

- Unions ask permission to file brief in US Airways-American Airlines antitrust case (Dallas Morning News) – 10.21.13
In other merger news, Marcus Gluth, APFA Vice President and Florida resident, along with APFA’s Government Affairs Representative Julie Frederick, met with the office of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The Florida attorney general is one of the six (remaining) AGs who joined the DOJ lawsuit in its effort to block the AA/US merger. Florida stands to gain tremendous benefits for consumers who will have more choices with seamless connections and increased international flying with a third strong competitor in the new American. The Attorney General’s office was receptive and seemed eager to hear why the employees are supporting the merger. APFA appreciated the opportunity to discuss why we believe it is the best path forward for both of our companies.

Interim Bid-Line Pay Protection – November 1, 2013
Over the past few weeks, members of your APFA Negotiating Team had several productive meetings on bid-line guarantee protection with the Company. An agreement was reached and will be implemented beginning next month. The team made a short presentation to the APFA leadership at the Board of Directors meeting on October 17th.
This protection language will be thoroughly explained on the Scheduling page of the APFA’s website prior to the implementation date of November 1, 2013. Bid-Line Guarantee Protection will be explained in detail at the APFA Roadshows.
AM/PM and Adjacent Base Flying
AM/PM and AB Flying are in full swing system wide. For more information on these programs, visit the APFA Scheduling page at www.apfa.org.
Benefits Enrollment
Information regarding AA’s 2014 Benefits Plan options is now available online at www.my.aa.com. Benefits enrollment for 2014 will open on November 1, 2013 and close at midnight central time on November 15, 2013.
This year AA will not be mailing a benefits overview to each employee’s home, so please take the time to review all of the options carefully in order to make the best decisions for yourself and your family. When reviewing your options, please take the time to ensure that your HR contact and beneficiary information is up to date. The deadline for enrollment is midnight central time on Friday, November 15, 2013.
