FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ft. Worth, TX (February 28, 2014) –Ft. Worth, TX (February 28, 2014) – Flight Attendants at the pre-merger US Airways have voted to approve an Agreement on Bargaining and Representation as well as a Negotiations Protocol Agreement, determining how the combined Flight Attendant workgroup at the new American Airlines wishes to be represented and how they will achieve a joint contract.

Under the terms of the agreements, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (the union representing pre-merger American Airlines Flight Attendants) and the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (the union representing pre-merger US Airways Flight Attendants) will form a joint negotiating committee that will bargain with the new American management team for a new contract. The Committee will negotiate according to an expedited timetable, already agreed to by American management. By June 9th, APFA and AFA will file a single carrier application with the National Mediation Board, which is the first step to the NMB certifying APFA as the bargaining representative of the combined Flight Attendant workgroup at the new American Airlines.

“Today’s vote shows that the Flight Attendants of the new American are strong, united, and ready to get to work building the greatest airline in the world,” said APFA president Laura Glading. “With this ratification vote, we can hit the ground running on negotiations for a new joint contract.”

“Flight Attendants are eager to experience the benefits of this merger. We are taking ownership of our future through this historic agreement to work together with the full resources of our two great Flight Attendant unions to get the contract we deserve. We look forward to getting started on a process that will achieve real results for Flight Attendants and their families,” stated Roger Holmin, AFA President at US Airways.”
