Special APFA Hotline – Overwater Qualified Training
November 20, 2014
As previously announced, preparations are underway to fully combine the Domestic and International Operations in May 2015. Training for the remaining 2,900 Domestic Flight Attendants that are not currently Overwater qualified will begin in January 2015. For the first time, APFA and AA have agreed that Flight Attendants will be able to proffer for the training and bid for their class date in advance of monthly bidding. Even Flight Attendants who are drafted for the Overwater Training will be able to bid for their class date.
Overwater training will consist of three (3) days of classroom training. Some online training will be necessary prior to classroom training. Flight Attendants will have the option to stay a fourth day in order to complete IFS/IPE training in conjunction with their overwater training. The IFS qualification is necessary to fly Europe and Deep South America (e.g. EZE, GIG, GRU, SCL, etc.).
Flight Attendants may proffer for the training in January 2015 beginning on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 1000 CT. The proffer ballot will close on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 1400 CT. If there are insufficient proffers, Flight Attendants will be drafted in reverse seniority order. The ballot for those subject to drafting, should it be necessary, will open on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 1700 CT and close on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 1000 CT. Classes will be awarded based on the combined seniority of both the proffer and draft ballots and will be posted to the Flight Attendant’s HI10 by 1700, December 15, 2014. Bid Leave requests for January 2015 will close at 0900 on December 16 to accommodate the introduction of this new process.
Training will continue through November 2015. All Flight Attendants will be required to obtain the Overwater qualification by the end of 2015.
Please refer to the Q&A posted on the Contract Department page of APFA.org for more details as well as the Letter of Agreement.
