Voluntary Insurance Program Enrollment Ends Tomorrow – LAA/LUS
APFA members have the opportunity to enroll in a new voluntary insurance program. The products being offered to APFA members by Union Benefit Planners (UBP) for 2016 are:
- Short-Term Disability Insurance
- Universal Life Insurance with Long-Term Care
- Critical Illness Insurance
- Accident Insurance
These voluntary coverage options are not associated with American Airlines or AA Added Benefits. This year, there will be no medical questions required to enroll in the Short-Term Disability Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance or Accident Insurance. These are individual policies that are portable, therefore, they are not linked to AA automatic payroll deduction. Even if your employment with American Airlines ends, these policies will continue as long as you continue to pay the premiums.

JetAway App and iOS 9.1 – LAA/LUS
Apple’s iOS 9.1 is not supported at this time with the JetAway app. Once you upgrade your Apple device to the latest operating system, the JetAway App will not work. The app will open and immediately close. It is recommended that you use the mobi.aa.com mobile site until the app is upgraded by American Airlines IT.
Dues Forgiveness Amendment Deadline – LAA
The APFA membership recently approved an amendment to the APFA Constitution that affects dues owed while on unpaid status for some or all of the period between January 8, 2010 and June 18, 2014. Dues forgiveness will be given if a member makes a one-time payment to PAFA of $123.00 or the unpaid dues balance accrued during the period from January 8, 201 to June 18, 2014, whichever is smaller. The form mailed to your homes and the payment must be received by APFA no later than Thursday, December 10, 2015. If you have any questions, please contact the APFA Dues Department at 817-540-0108, ext. 8151 or at [email protected].

Upcoming Base Visits – LAA/LUS
APFA National President Marcus Gluth will visit base operation areas in JFK November 3, 2015 at 5:30pm and LGA November 4, 2015 at 0700.
Prefunding Arbitration – LAA
The case is now closed. The final briefs were made by the parties involved and it is in Arbitrator’s court. We will update the membership as soon as we have a final timeline for a decision. Depending on the award, it could be another 60 days before we have information to share.
Keeping Good Records While on an IOD – LAA/LUS
It is extremely important to keep an accurate record of everything that happens from the time that your injury occurs until your case is eventually closed. It is in your best interest to start a file with all of the records listed below so that you will have all your documents in one place should you need them.
- All paperwork documenting your injury
- All medical reports and records
- All correspondences with AA, Sedgwick, doctors, nurse case managers, attorneys or anyone else involved in you case
- Records of all income and benefits received
- A record of mileage related to your medical treatment
- A telephone and email log including names, dates and what was discussed
If you have any questions or ongoing issues, contact APFA National IOD Chair Bellia Peckson at [email protected]
Fall Back an Hour This Weekend – LAA/LUS
Early Sunday morning at 2:00am, we are moving from Daylight Saving time back to Standard time. Remember, you’ll “fall back” by setting your clocks back one hour. Many electronic devices, including cell phones, automatically adjust when Daylight Saving Time begins or ends.
Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa do not observe Daylight Saving Time, therefore these areas will not “fall back” this weekend.
Remember, it’s fall back an hour. Otherwise, if you rely on your hotel alarm clock, you may be an hour early downstairs in the hotel lobby.
Public safety officials recommend replacing your home smoke alarm batteries this weekend as well. Daylight Saving Time returns at 2:00am local time on Sunday, March 13, 2016.
