LOD/O Bidding

LOD/O’s may bid for pairings that are completely within their language, completely outside of their language, or a hybrid of both.

Being awarded non-LOD/O pairings is dependent on:

  1. What senior LOD/O’s bid for
  2. The total number of LOD/O’s in your specific program
  3. How many LOD/O pairings are available
  4. Required LOD/O staffing of Lineholders/Reserves

If sufficient LOD/O’s are available for coverage in a program, the line constraints of a particular bidder may result in a LOD/O Reserve line being awarded. For example, if a LOD/O does not include enough pairings in their bid, does not adequately expand their Target Credit Range or does not include non-LOD/O pairings in their bid, and PBS cannot award a legal line of LOD/O pairings, that bidder may be awarded a reserve line.

If sufficient LOD/O coverage is not available in a program and PBS cannot award based on the pairing or line constraints of the bid, the LOD/O will be forced into LOD/O pairings to comply with the language on page 15-5 of the Redbook contract.

“A LOD/O Lineholder may be awarded non-LOD/O pairings in her/his line consistent with her/his seniority provided the PBS solution can distribute substantially all LOD/O trips to LOD/O Lineholders in accordance with the recommendations of the JIRC, and consistent with the PBS system and the recommendations of the vendor.

Reserve Trading Days Off Cheat Sheet

Below is a Reserve Trading Days Off quick reference guide. This will also be available on Wings under Bidding > Step 5: Reserve Bidding.
Go to Screen 39 in CATCREW. You will see a blank screen.

Hit the Enter key one time to see your information populate on the screen.

Type an ‘S’ under bid month and hit the enter key to go to the next screen to enter your bids.

On the left side of the screen you will see your current schedule displayed. On the right side of the screen you will see the Trade for Day lines to enter your bid choices.

Indicate what day on your current schedule you would be willing to trade by placing an ‘X’ in the D column on the line to the right of that day off. Enter the day you are trying to trade for on the Trade for Day Lines on the right hand side of the screen. Enter your choices in preferential order using lines 1-10.

If you are attempting to move multiple days in the same unit, you would use the lines right to left to indicate your choices. Remember that for multiple day requests, it is an all or nothing award, meaning that either days must be able to move, or neither day will move.

To save your unit, type ‘YES’ in the Update Unit Field. Then, hit the enter key.

After hitting the enter key, you will see a message at the bottom of the screen confirming your unit has been saved.

To delete a unit, type ‘DEL’ in the Update Unit Field. Then hit the enter key.

Red-Eye Definition Clarification

Last week, we shared information about the change to the Red-Eye definition in ISAP. Some further clarification is needed to adequately explain the difference between an ISAP Red-Eye and a PBS Red-Eye. It is also important to point out this definition of a Red-Eye also applies to ROTA processing.

PBS –
“Within a duty period, if a flight segment is scheduled to touch 0100 through 0101 LOCAL TIME as calculated at either the departure or destination station such pairing is classified as a Red-Eye pairing” – Redbook Contract section 11.k.1

ISAP and ROTA
Within a duty period, if a flight segment is scheduled to touch 0100 through 0101 HOME BASE TIME and is not a Transoceanic International pairing, it is classified as a Red-Eye pairing.

When bidding for or eliminating Red-Eyes from your bids, it is essential at you understand what pairings are classified as a Red-Eye in that particular process.

Reserve Email Notification: Incorrect Report Time

The Reserve Open Time Award (ROTA) Processing email sent to Reserves is incorrectly indicating a departure time instead of a report time. The correction to the email message is in testing phases. Until the correction is announced, please double-check your assignment in CATS to confirm the correct report time.

Being Added to the Facebook Page

If you have not been added to the Tips from the JIRC Facebook page and would like to be, please email [email protected] with the subject line “Add to Facebook” and we will send you an invitation.
