767-300 Staffing Reduction – LAA

Earlier today, the Company announced a reduction in staffing to eight (8) Flight Attendants on the 767-300 aircraft for International Premium Destination (IPD) flights effective December 1. 

The Company claims that this reduction is a result of improved Business class inflight entertainment units and new power cords being introduced on 767-300 aircraft. But as Flight Attendants working this aircraft, we know that our passengers will suffer from a decline in personalized business class service that they expect, in addition to increasing our workloads. With increased workloads, this reduction will affect inflight rest for Flight Attendants, which in turn contributes to fatigue.

We have created a special email address to report workload and inflight rest issues regarding this upcoming change. If you experience these issues beginning December 1, please report them immediately to [email protected]. We will send out a reminder of this email address after the December 1 implementation.

Although the Company controls staffing, APFA retains the right to grieve any action, including a Company-imposed reduction in staffing. APFA will be filing a Presidential Grievance on increased workload and reduction of inflight crew rest due to this upcoming change. In 2002, APFA filed a Presidential Grievance on the Company’s decision to remove a Flight Attendant from the 777-200 aircraft. APFA prevailed in the Grievance, and the Arbitrator ordered a service modification and understaffing back pay for Flight Attendants.
