PBS Property Description and Function Overview LUS

Allow Multiple Pairing

This Property enables the user to allow two (2) separate Pairings on the same calendar day separated by legal domicile rest plus forty-five (:45) minutes. The PBS default will not award Multiple Pairings. The 2013 Red Book Contract reference is 10.D.14.b., Page 10-13.

Allow Double Up

This Property enables the user to allow two (2) separate Pairings on the same calendar day without legal rest between the two (2) Pairings. The PBS default will not award double-ups. A Flight Attendant waiving to accept double-up Pairings may be awarded two (2) Pairings separated by zero minutes (0:00) from check-out to check-in (release to report). The 2013 Red Book Contract reference is 10.D.14.c., Page 10-13.

Prefer Position Order

When using the Prefer Position Order property with bids that include the K position in your pairing pool, you must enter all the positions you are bidding for. For example, FK, FA, FB. Omitting the FK, even when bidding a Specific Pairing number for the FK position, will prevent it from being awarded. If you are not bidding the FK position, do not include it in your Prefer Position Order.

Also, when using the Prefer Position Order by adding a preference order such as FK, FA, FB, FC, the Chaser/FK Pairings are not given priority, even though the FK position is listed first. The Chaser/FK Pairings and the Core Pairings (FA, FB, FC) are considered equal within a single layer. Omitting the Chaser/FK position from your prefer position order automatically eliminates Chaser/FK Pairings from being awarded.

If you do not use the Prefer Position Order at all in a layer, the system will consider ALL positions in the pairing pools.

Waive Minimum Days Off

This Property enables the user to reduce the minimum days off to less than eleven (11) calendar days. The 2013 Red Book Contract reference is 11.H, Page 11-6.

This waiver pertains specifically to bidders that are requesting Red Eye’s and ODAN’s and /or High Time that bid low credit hour trips. These bidders may need to waive their minimum days off to achieve higher hours.

Clear Bid

This property enables the user to discard all bids from the previous Layers and start over with new properties. If PBS is unable to award a Line prior to the Clear Bid Property being used, accumulated Pairings from prior Layers will be discarded. PBS will then use the Preferences in that Layer and subsequent Layers to build a Line. Clear bid can be used in multiple Layers.

An example of this is an attempt to bid for all MAD Pairings in Layer 1. If all MAD Pairings are not awarded to create a Line, disregard everything in Layer 1 and move to Layer 2. In Layer 2, if all CDG Pairings are not awarded to create a Line, disregard everything in Layer 2 and move to Layer 3, etc.

Reserve MD/GD Waivers and Must Off vs. Prefer Off

The logic behind the waiver Allow Single Golden Day (GD) is to place a Moveable Day (MD) in front of a single GD instead of two GD’s together. It is not meant to simply have one GD awarded alone. Most of these bidders are trying to bid for all weekends off. To achieve this, the recommendation is to bid both waivers located under the reserve tab. Allow Multiple Two days off and Allow Single GD.  If you do not bid the waivers to allow a single GD when you ask for Multiple Two Days off, and you are expecting to achieve a pattern of two days off each week, the system does not have the ability to create such a pattern with the number of GD and MD allotted.

Eight (8) days per month will be awarded as GDs and three (3) days a month will be awarded as MDs. Bidding more than (eleven) 11 must off days in any layer will void the layer.  A line holder with must off days in every reserve layer that cannot be honored will be awarded a regular line.

There are three (3) factors determining how Golden Days are awarded:

  • Daily and total Reserve staffing requirements
  • Contractual Reserve patterns
  • Seniority

Prefer and Avoid Aircraft Type

Please review the A/C type code key. Remember that anything with an X is a mix of that A/C type e.g..; 32X mix of A319/A320/A321 pairing etc.

If you would like to have all aircraft restricted to A319/A320/A321 you can bid 32X but remember if the pairing is pure A319 it will not show up in that Prefer A/C type. You would also need to bid Prefer A319, Prefer A320 and Prefer A321. That will ensure that you have all of the possible combinations of those types of aircraft, making a total of four (4) prefer pairing types in one layer.

It is possible to select more than one A/C type to prefer or avoid but you only need to Prefer or Avoid, do not do both in the same layer. Only A/C types specific to the domicile will display. Please refer to the PBS/Crew Portal guide page 1.21 for further clarification of this property.

LOD/O Target Credit Range

Bidders in the LOD/O program are not required to bid outside of the program at any time unless they choose to. Bidders who bid solely in the LOD/O program will NOT be held to the global parameters for TCR based on their seniority. This means that junior FAs who cannot hold over 90 at their seniority in the regular bid may be able to hold over 90 in the LOD/O bid depending on the bidding trends of other LOD/O’s in their specific language. If for any reason they bid outside the program the FA will then be held to the global parameters for TCR for their seniority set by the base.

LOD/O Prefer Position Order

FL designator must be used when LOD/O bidders are bidding LOD/O pairings. If you do not use a Prefer Position order at all you do not need to designate the FL. However, if you are bidding pairings outside of the LOD/O program you must designate all Positions in the order you prefer them. If you want to be awarded anything outside the LOD/O program you must include the other positions, remembering that just like the K position above, the L position is its own pairing and will be considered equally if substantially all of the pairings in your language can be covered.

Buddy Bidding

When Buddy Bidding in both TBS and PBS please make sure that the person that is designating themselves as a leader or initiator of the bid has checked with the followers for possible conflicts with their planned absences. It is preferred that you avoid any conflict with a planned absence when bidding for trips or training classes.

Buddy Bidding and Target Credit Range

When asking for High Time as a Buddy Bidder, the follower must designate the target credit range property in their first layer matching the request of the initiator, in order to be awarded a credit range higher than 90 hours. If the Leader wants to bid High Time and the follower does not, they will fall within the default credit range of 40-90.
