FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

APFA Leaders to Picket DOT’s NAI Decision Next Week in Washington, D.C.

FORT WORTH, Texas (May 6, 2016) – On Thursday, May 12, 2016, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) will be participating in a picketing event opposing the tentative approval by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to allow Norwegian Air International (NAI) to begin regular flights to the United States. This is an important fight for us to take on for the 25,000 Flight Attendants at American Airlines, and for our sisters and brothers at other airlines in America.

APFA has joined other Labor Unions by opposing this approval, as we believe it gives Norwegian Air International an unfair advantage, and allows the airline to bypass established labor rules, which in turn will force Flight Attendants to work at substandard wages and in discriminatory conditions.

If you are available and would like to attend, we would love to have you join APFA and our other Sister Unions who are standing together with our friends in Congress in opposition to this exploitation of fair labor practices. APFA National President Bob Ross will be in attendance, along with several other members of APFA leadership. All Flight Attendants are welcome and encouraged to attend to help stop NAI.

“We are headed to Washington, D.C. next week to show our collective voice against the DOT’s tentative approval.”, said APFA National President Bob Ross. “We cannot allow the DOT to approve a deal which will open the door to global outsourcing and, in so doing, negatively affect the livelihood of our hard-working Flight Attendants. Washington and the DOT will hear us loud and clear on Thursday.”
