Contract and Scheduling Voluntary Training October 29

As many of you are aware, our APFA National Scheduling Chair, Jaimie McNeice, and our National Contract Chair, Brent Peterson, have agreed to come to DCA to conduct contract and scheduling voluntary training for our base. This was based on so much feedback from many of you who have said you would like to understand and learn our contract and work rules better. This will be a very comprehensive voluntary training that will be incredibly valuable for any one of any seniority. This is a rare opportunity, so if you are available, we encourage you to attend the training on October 29 from 0900-1600.  The training will be held in the conference room behind operations in the Center Pier (our current operations area).

Professional Standards

We are pleased to announce that we have a new Professional Standards Representative for DCA. Dana James will be our new Professional Standards Representative. We are thrilled that she has agreed to take on this responsibility. Dana can be reached at (703) 785-3153. Our goal is to eventually have one or two other Flight Attendants who will also represent Professional Standards for DCA. When they have accepted the position and have completed training, we will announce them in a future hotline.

This is also a good time to remind everyone that Professional Standards should always be your first contact when having difficulty with a fellow Flight Attendant or if you are concerned about the conduct and safety of one of your colleagues. Social media can be a great resource and fun place to interact about work, but discussing another crewmembers  behavior and/or actions should never be discussed on the internet.  Even in the safety of “closed” or “private” groups, at a base as intimate as ours, there really is no such thing as “private” online.

Reserve Co-Terminal Transportation Options

After many years of obstacles and struggles, we are pleased to announce that we have some relief for our DCA Reserve Flight Attendants. As of October 1, Reserves now have the ability to set up transportation from DCA to IAD and BWI “when public transportation is not available.” While the long term goal is for every Reserve to have this option for every trip, during the 3-month trial the Company is only willing to provide it for early sign-ins and late returns when the Metro/Metro Bus and MARC Trains cannot transport you to/from DCA. This will be reviewed after the trial period, and we will continue to advocate for every co-terminal trip going forward.
