KCM Changes Go into Effect Tomorrow – LAA/LUS

Effective tomorrow, Tuesday, May 17th, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will implement new changes to the Known Crewmember (KCM) program for crewmembers traveling to international destination on personal travel.

Crewmembers traveling as a passenger for personal travel from a U.S. location to an international location, must be screened as a passenger through the passenger screening checkpoint prior to entering into the airport sterile area. Crewmembers will no longer be allowed to use the KCM access point for personal travel from the U.S. to an international location.

All other provisions of the KCM program remain in effect.

Please Note: Crewmembers traveling from the U.S. to international locations on Company business may continue to use the KCM access points.

Company business includes; but is not limited to, the following:

  • Flight Operations
  • Training
  • Crew Positioning
  • Deadheading
  • Other Company Business

AMR Event Report – LUS

Passenger misconduct should no longer be reported using a Passenger Misconduct Report (PMR). LUS Flight Attendants now file AMR Event Reports for all safety, security, inflight medical events and PMRs.

Injuries on Duty (IODs), formerly known as On the Job Injuries (OJIs), are now the only events that should be reported using a Safety Event Report (SER).

In the event you need to file a Passenger Misconduct Report, you may see either of two forms onboard the aircraft, located in the Passenger Service Kit (PSK):

  • PIDR – Passenger Inflight Disturbance Report
  • FACT Sheet – You may use the FACT sheet as all forms are transitioned to the PIDR

Visit the Flight Service website, and click on the Safety and Security link on the left side of the homepage to access AMR Event Reports.

Unexpected Turbulence – LAA/LUS

Spring and Summer thunderstorms are approaching and this is the time of year that injuries occur due to unexpected turbulence.

If the captain has not advised the Flight Attendants to be seated and you are experiencing turbulence, TAKE THE NEAREST OPEN SEAT IMMEDIATELY, if possible. If that is not possible, sit on the floor and hold onto a stationary object. When conditions permit, notify the Captain.

Don’t wait for the Captain to make an announcement. If you sustain an injury due to turbulence, it is imperative that you notify the Captain that you have been injured and request that the turbulence be documented. It is important that you let the Captain know that you will be seeking medical treatment.

Flight Attendants are encouraged to file an Injury on Duty (IOD) report with your Flight Service Manager as well as an AMR event report. The AMR Event report is located on the Flight Service website by clicking on Safety and Security.

For more information about turbulence safety, please refer to the Inflight Manual – Safety and Security – General Safety.

APFA EAP and Professional Standards – LAA/LUS
Think Twice Before “Going to the Office”

Have you ever found yourself in a position with a colleague or fellow crewmember where you questioned their behavior or professional judgement? We were all hired with the expectation that we are capable of independent problem solving in an unsupervised environment and, for the most part, we do an amazing job of resolving personal or professional conflicts that arise from time to time in the high stress environment in which we work. However, there are times when a situation becomes unmanageable due to circumstances that do not lend themselves to resolution through direct, personal interaction.

If you ever find yourself in this position, APFA offers a very valuable resource in helping you and your colleagues find resolution without having to involve Management, which often times leads to disciplinary action to one or even both parties involved in on the job disputes. Professional Standards is a voluntary, confidential service offering members the opportunity to resolve conflicts or concerns with co-workers without management involvement.  It is the lowest level of informal intervention possible and is the best option to choose before risking potentially career changing consequences for all parties involved.

Professional Standards Representatives are trained to provide you with timely, confidential support and APFA highly suggests taking advantage of this valuable resource before resorting to Management-involvement or public shaming of your coworkers on social media. Your local base Professional Standards Representative contact information can be found by clicking here. For more detailed information on the APFA Professional Standards Department and to learn more, click here.
