Help Us Help You – LAA/LUS

Reassignments and Reschedules are at an all-time high and APFA has made it clear to the company that this is unacceptable and needs to be addressed immediately. In order to make our case and ensure that contractual language is being followed, we need to hear about any reassignments/reschedules that you believe may have resulted in a contractual violation.

We have placed a Reassignment/Reschedule Form on the APFA website in order to compile information that can help us determine whether or not AA is adhering to the contractual language and proper protocol regarding reschedules and reassignments. Also, we encourage you to continue submitting any issues or concerns you have about hotels and transportation on the Hotel/Transportation Debrief Form on the homepage at www.www.apfa.org

Facebook is a great place to vent, but we need your help in following through with detailed reports to APFA in order to document and track potential violations of our contract.

Last Five (5) Days Pay Protection – LAA

When you are following Last Five (5) Days pay protection procedures, you have the option to either accept or decline a Make Up (MU) trip that ends, including the debrief period, in the next contractual month. You will not lose your pay protection if you decline such specific trip sequences.

Pay protection is limited to the scheduled hours lost in the current contractual month. Therefore, if you lost a carryover trip, only those hours in the current month are pay protected.

Progress on #DENYNAI – LAA/LUS

This week, the Department of Transportation (DOT) denied Norwegian Air Shuttle’s request to expand their operations flying to the US. The company applied for a foreign air carrier permit for one of its subsidiaries, Norwegian Air UK, in order to gain access to more airports covered under the U.S. and European Union’s Open Skies agreement.

The DOT said no—at least for now. APFA and other unions have been battling Norwegian Air International (NAI) and its multiple subsidiaries for months, stating that their way of doing business exploits workers and will profoundly undercut worker rights and unions. APFA is continuing to oppose any expansion of NAI in the US.

In May, APFA President Bob Ross led a contingent of FA’s to Washington DC where they joined hundreds of others in a protest at the White House urging the Administration to deny NAI expanded service in the US.

Update on AFA-UAL Tentative Agreement LAA/LUS

As mentioned in last week’s hotline, United Airlines (UAL) has reached a tentative agreement with the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA). Their Master Executive Council (MEC) has voted unanimously to send it to their membership for ratification.

In the event that United Flight Attendants ratify their agreement, APFA has reached out to analysts who will be involved in determining how the initial United joint collective Bargaining Agreement affects the “market-based in the aggregate” analysis for the American JCBA. We will be watching closely for any potential gains realized by the AFA/UAL agreement.

How to Get Faster Turnaround Times on Pay Claim Issues – LAA/LUS

We have had positive feedback from Flight Attendants on the new DirectConnect Method for entering pay claims. Expected response time on claims is five (5) to seven (7) days, however many are processed in as little as 48 hours.

For even faster turnaround times, please enter the category/type of your pay claim in the ‘Comments to Crew Comp’ section of the online form.  For example, if you are entering a claim for Voluntary Extension Pay (VE), please type VE PAY at the beginning of your comments. This will ensure that your claim is assigned to the proper department for a quicker resolution of your issue.

If you are unsure which category applies to your claim, please email the Contract Department at [email protected].
