Update on UAL Contract Analysis – LAA/LUS

APFA financial analysts are currently in the process of analyzing the recent Bargaining Agreement reached between United Airlines (UAL) and its Flight Attendants to determine, not only how their agreement affects the market-based in the aggregate analysis for our JCBA, but also how the company’s recent push back of Full Operational Integration (FOI) will affect the ultimate value of our JCBA.

Per the Negotiations Protocol Agreement (NPA), the initial meeting with the Company must begin no later than thirty 30 days after implementation of the UAL agreement. Since the UAL agreement was implemented on September 1, 2016, we have until October 1, 2016 to initiate discussions with the Company.

If the parties cannot come to agreement within 15 days from the day of the initial meeting, both parties shall immediately submit their dispute to final and binding arbitration. Once the dispute has been submitted to arbitration, the parties will mutually agree on the date of the arbitration hearing. An arbitration award shall be issued no later than thirty (30) days after the first day of the arbitration hearing.

If necessary, the APFA and the Company may mutually agree to extend the 30-day analysis period and/or the 15-day discussion period. However, rest assured, both parties are committed to an expeditious process in reaching an agreement.

Injury On Duty (IOD) Process to be Centralized at AA HDQ – LAA

Over the next several weeks the IOD process will be transitioning to a centralized location providing members with a single point of contact throughout the injury administration process.

The rollout will be transitioning on staggered dates at each base:

  • DFW – Monday, August 29th
  • STL/RDU/ORD/DCA – Tuesday, September 6th
  • LAX/SFO – Monday, September 19th
  • LGA/JFK/BOS – Monday, October 3rd
  • MIA – Monday, October 17th

Continue to complete all initial IOD reports at your base as is done today. The IOD Administrator will contact you to assist with the following:

  • Initial distribution of documents
  • Communicating appointments
  • Recoding of absences
  • Ensuring salary continuance is submitted
  • Case management follow-up
  • Collaborating with Sedgwick and the Nurse Case Managers
  • Ensuring state and OSHA guidelines are followed

To contact an IOD administrator call 1-800-VIP-CREW, then select options #, 6, 4.

IOD procedures for LUS remain unchanged.

Clarification on Zika Trip Removal Codes – LAA/LUS

In last week’s hotline, we announced that the Company has extended their Zika policy to male Flight Attendants who are trying to avoid transmission of the Zika virus to their partner who is pregnant, or trying to become pregnant.

If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant (includes male partner seeking to avoid transmission to their partner) and do not wish to take your next trip sequence to the affected area, contact your Flight Service Manager to request a personal absence.

This will be an excused personal unpaid absence coded as a PU/PO for LAA and PER for LUS. For a list of destinations currently at risk for Zika transmission please consult the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website.
