Riots and Protests in Charlotte, North Carolina – LAA/LUS
Â
The dissension, in the heart of Charlotte’s Uptown district, was the second night of extraordinary tension, where a police officer killed a black man on Tuesday afternoon. Tonight’s demonstration was interrupted by gunfire that wounded a man in the crowd. Law enforcement authorities fired tear gas in a move to restore order.
Around 10pm ET, the police ordered all civilians to leave parts of Uptown and threatened arrests of those who did not comply. When the crowd did not respond immediately, law enforcement fired more tear gas.
All Flight Attendants currently on the Uptown Charlotte long layover are advised to stay inside the hotel and to remain vigilant.
APFA and American Airlines Corportate Security are working together to move all incoming crews with Uptown/Long layovers to airport hotels tonight and over the next few days.
If any Flight Attendant needs immediate assistance, please contact Flight Service Daily Operations at (888) 222-4737.
