Willingness-to-Serve (WTS) for Base Representative Elections – LAA/LUS
The APFA National Ballot Committee would like to advise all Flight Attendants that it’s that time again for Base Representative Elections. The WTS for Base President, Base Vice President, and BCRs will be posted on the APFA website on November 28, 2016. They must be completed and received by APFA by December 28, 2016 at 10:00 am CT.
The WTS is now electronic and does not get mailed back to the Ballot Committee. The form has complete instructions on how to fill it out and how to send.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the National Ballot Committee at 817-540-0108 ext 8311 or by email [email protected].

Direct Connect Turnaround Times – LAA/LUS
In order to speed up turnaround times on DirectConnect claims for pay issues, it is important that claims be entered only once. Turnaround times can average between five (5) and seven (7) days; however, multiple entries of the same claim bogs down the system and delays the process. Once your claim is entered, the online tool assigns a case number that you can use to track its progress. Select the Ticket Log tab to review the status of your request.
Upcoming Retirement Seminars – LAA/LUS
The APFA Retirement Department has scheduled a series of retirement seminars for the month of November. Ron Harris and Patrick Hancock will be conducting these seminars in our three western crew bases. You can attend any seminar regardless of where you are based.
- 11/14 – SFO – General Manager’s Conference Room located down the hall and to the left of Flight Service Operations
- 11/15 – LAX – Conference Room located in Flight Service Operations
- 11/16 – PHX – British Airways Conference Room located in Terminal 4, above Gate B22 on the Mezzanine Level
All three seminars are scheduled from 1100-1400 local base time.
Members in the Legacy American pension plan are advised to print out an estimate from Jetnet prior to the meetings.
Members in Legacy US Airways pension plans must call the PBGC at (800)400-7242 or visit the website at http://mypba.pbgc.gov to request an estimate via the US mail.
It’s never too early to start planning for retirement and all members, regardless of their seniority, are welcome to attend.

Election Day – November 8th 2016- LAA/LUS
Election Day is less than a week away and early voting is open in many of our members’ home states.
There is much at stake in this election cycle, from the President of the United States all the way through local elections.
With thousands of members in several key swing states including Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, Flight Attendants could play a key role in determining the outcome of this election.
With U.S. Senate races also on the ballot in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, many of our bases will be key in down ballot elections.
Turn out is critical. If possible, please try to vote early as lines will be long on election day.
If you have any questions, wish to volunteer, or need help finding your polling place, please contact APFA Government Affairs Rep. Allie Malis at [email protected].
Daylight Saving Time Ends This Weekend – LAA/LUS
The bad news is: it’s going to get dark earlier; the good news is: we’ll get an extra hour of sleep this week. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour this Sunday, November 6th at 0200.
Remember, Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa do not observe Daylight Saving Time; therefore, these areas will not “fall back” this weekend.
