In Memory of USAir Flight 1493 and SkyWest Flight 5569
Today marks the 26th anniversary of the collision of USAir Flight 1493 and SkyWest Flight 5569 at Los Angeles International airport. The SkyWest twin engine turboprop was cleared to taxi into takeoff position on the same runway where a USAir Boeing 737 was cleared to land.
All 12 people aboard the SkyWest plane were killed, as well as 23 out of the 95 people aboard Flight 1493. Of the 23 fatalities on Flight 1493, Lead Flight Attendant Deanna Bethea and Captain Colin Shaw lost their lives.
We honor Flight Attendants Deanna Bethea, Bill Ibarra, Patricia Hodges, and Vance Spurgeon, in addition to Captain Colin Shaw and First Officer David Kelly. Our hearts and minds are with all the victims and their families today.
