Dear DCA Flight Attendants,

Recent Special Meeting by the APFA Board of Directors

On June 24th and 25th, the APFA Board of Directors (BOD) met for a special meeting in Dallas. The meeting was called to review the decision made by the Executive Committee (EC) to send out the Minimum Annual Threshold (Hard 40) and the Timeline Implementation (Vacation & Sick) Letters of Agreement for a membership vote. The BOD decided unanimously to overturn the EC’s decision per the following resolution:

BOD RESOLUTION #3

Annual Parking Enrollment

It’s that time of year for the annual parking permit enrollment. DCA Flight Attendants will be applying for DCA and IAD parking permits.

This is a two-step process:

Step 1The Paper Form must be completed and submitted by July 21, 2017. You may fax, mail, or personally submit the form to the DCA Flight Service Office. The form can be found on the DCA Flight Service web page or can be picked up in the crew room. The mailing address and fax number are provided on the form.

Step 2The E-Permit is an online application from MWAA that must be completed for DCA and IAD parking permits.
Watch for the site to open in early August. Further information will be provided as we draw closer to the opening of the MWAA site.

If you have any questions please direct them to an MOD or FSM in the DCA Flight Service Office.

Annual Retirement Seminar

On June 21, 2017 we held our annual retirement seminar in DCA.

Retirement specialists Ron Harris and Patrick Hancock were on hand to review and answer questions. A unique presentation was provided to help direct our Flight Attendants with the “ins and outs” of preparing for retirement. Both LAA & LUS Flight Attendants were in attendance.

Financial Advisor, Shaun Eck, from the Flagship Financial Group was also on hand to answer questions and offer his group’s services.
You can email him directly at [email protected] for more information.

Additional Retirement Seminars will be scheduled throughout the system later in the year. Refer to the Retirement page on the APFA website for upcoming locations and dates as well as to access the retirement handbook given out at the seminar:

FAA Cabin Safety Inspectors On Property

FAA Inspectors are randomly and actively checking for up-to-date manuals. Please ensure your tablet is up to date, fully charged and that you are in possession of a fully charged spare battery when you report for duty. They are also checking that Flight Attendants are not exceeding the allowable number of crew bags.

FAA Inspectors are also performing check rides to monitor Flight Attendant duties and compliance. They have been focused on tablet compliance and non-safety related activities of Flight Attendants during surface movement of the aircraft.

The FAA can write up any observed infractions and the Flight Attendant may be subject to monetary fines ranging  from $300 up to $10,000 per infraction. The FAA submits the infraction to the Company and it could then be addressed by an FSM.

DCA Employee Shuttle Bus Stop Relocation

On August 1, 2017 all employee shuttle bus stops at the terminals will be relocated to three locations away from the terminal. There will not be any pick up or drop off of employees at the curb of Terminals A, B, or C. The relocation is required as the Capital Construction Program takes effect.

This relocation is expected to last for approximately one year. Please allow a few additional minutes on your commute time when arriving for your check-in.

Here is a map detailing the relocation:

Summer and Irregular Operations

As we progress through the Summer months, we should be prepared for irregular operations caused by summer storms and other weather related issues. I encourage you to review your contract language pertaining to Sections 10, 11, and 12 (Scheduling, Hours of Service, and Reserve) in the Redbook. The “On-Duty Contract Guide” is an excellent resource to consult when flying your trips. It is essentially a “Cliff Notes” version of your contract and duty rigs.

This Guide is available for you to pick up in the crew room. I have ordered additional copies to be delivered and am awaiting their arrival.

Tidbits

  • Reserves keep in mind that scheduling shall not assign you a modified RAP after your legal home domicile rest unless you request one. If a full RAP is not available then you are considered unavailable for the remainder of the calendar day.
  • We continue to ask for increased Shuttle flying, we hear your concerns and have voiced them with the Company. August bid packets do have additional Shuttle pairings but we are not back to the original amount before the changes. We will continue to advocate for this!
  • In addition, a few ODANS have been scheduled for the month of August.

I would like to wish you and your family a safe and HAPPY 4th of JULY!!

Happy Birthday America!

In Solidarity,

John Pennel,
