Miami and Other Florida Airport Closures

With Hurricane Irma currently tracking a path toward South Florida, American Airlines will be halting all flight operations at MIA and other Florida airports from Friday afternoon until Monday morning.

Flight Attendant schedules will be affected. Crew Scheduling has begun the process of adjusting trips and making changes. This will be an ongoing process throughout the day due to the huge number of updates that need to be made.

Departing Florida and Extra Section Flights From Miami

Any non-MIA based crew members on layover in Florida who want to depart this weekend will have an opportunity to leave prior to an airport closure.

The Company is working to add extra flights departing Miami.

If you are scheduled for a layover in an affected airport and would like to be on a flight, contact your Flight Service Manager (FSM) or Flight Service Daily Operations to be listed for a flight.

Evacuation Zones – Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach

As Hurricane Irma approaches, authorities are encouraging residents to know whether they live in an evacuation zone, so they know when it’s time to leave and where shelters may be available.

When counties mandate evacuations, they will do so by zones A through E. The zones are set based on a home’s vulnerability to deadly storm surge. Evacuation zones are not the same as FEMA flood zone designations.
