1.15.18 – (LAA/LUS) – Ninth Anniversary of the “Miracle on the Hudson”
Nine years ago today, US Airways Flight 1549 made an emergency landing on the Hudson River after bird strikes completely shut down both engines. Due the heroic actions of the entire crew on that cold January morning, 150 passengers were evacuated from the A320 with no fatalities.
Last year at the APFA Annual Convention, APFA bestowed its highest award for Flight Attendant Safety, The Jose Chiu Award, to Flight Attendants Doreen Welsh, Donna Dent, and Sheila Dail in recognition of their consummate professionalism under the most harrowing of circumstances.
We are proud of our colleagues and we salute them today for their bravery and skill—a true testament to our primary role as safety professionals and first responders!
