Why is APFA Allowing All These Changes?

This is a question APFA Officers and reps are getting quite frequently.

As you may know, the JCBA is made up of 85% Redbook language as negotiated by the JNC during negotiations in 2014, thus leading to many contractual changes, particularly for Legacy AA Flight Attendants. Many of the changes have already been implemented, with the remainder to be implemented as we move closer to FOI and beyond.

APFA has filed several Presidential Grievances challenging the Company’s piecemeal approach to implementing some of these contractual items.

Some of the Flight Attendants we have been hearing from are under the false assumption that the coming changes are a result of side letters of agreement. Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is, although we are challenging the Company’s timing and approach to implementation as outlined in our outstanding grievances, changes such as PBS, TTS, ETB, ROTA, and the upcoming pay alignment are, in fact, already part of the JCBA.

Soon, a new team of negotiators will begin the process of preparing for the next round of collective bargaining, and APFA will be soliciting the membership via surveys to find out what issues are most important to our Flight Attendants. In the meantime, APFA is charged with enforcing and upholding the terms of the current agreement, and we will continue to challenge any violations that bring harm to our members.

FOI Transfer Qualifications

If you are interested in submitting a transfer to a cross legacy base, please keep in mind that you are responsible for obtaining the equipment qualifications for each piece of equipment operating out of the base to which you would like to transfer. Additionally, some bases require IFS/AIFS International service training.

Below, you will see a chart outlining the equipment qualifications and International service requirements for each LAA and LUS base. Look for a Company communication announcing bidding for required base and equipment training which will continue to take place monthly as we head toward FOI. Currently, bidding for LUS Flight Attendants is open on Jetnet, under Flight Service > Training. Bidding closes May 6 at 1200 CST.

Upcoming Pay Alignment – LAA

As a reminder, Flight Attendants have until June 1st, 2018 to decide whether they will accept the advance from the Company on the July mid-month paycheck.

Please consult the April 16th Hotline to review your options or you can also access the online pay guide on Jetnet:  Making $ense of 2018 Payroll Changes.

Note:
If you currently have an active 401(k) loan and your July 16th paycheck does not cover the scheduled repayment, please reach out to the AA Call Center at Fidelity to discuss your options for keeping your loan on schedule. They can be reached at (800) 354-3412.

Also, if your mid-month paycheck does not cover your dues check-off, APFA will send you an invoice unless you make payment arrangements by contacting the dues department at [email protected] or 817-540-0108 ext. 8151.
