8.31.18 – (LAA/LUS) – A Message of Unity from the APFA Base Presidents
A Message of Unity from the APFA Base Presidents
A few weeks have passed since the Company presented their new attendance/performance policy with a planned implementation date of October 1, 2018. That same day, they will finally achieve what they have been trying to accomplish since 2015; Full Operational Integration (FOI).
In August, the Company implemented TTS, ETB, ROTA and ROTA-D for LAA bases. Clearly, not all of the systems were ready to go live.
Fast forward to October 1st. The Company will be implementing the full JCBA language on the LUS side which includes TTS/UBL, ETB, ROTA, ROTA-D, JCBA PBS, and Rotating Reserve. On top of all of these changes, we will be navigating through a new attendance policy. Our membership has enough stress and anxiety over the changes coming with FOI and the frustration of dealing with the Company’s IT failures. Now, we are faced with this extremely punitive and inhumane attendance policy; a policy that does not account for the challenges of the Flight Attendant profession. The Company maintains that they need to align the Flight Attendant attendance policy with other workgroups at AA. They fail to realize that other workgroups have different work environments. Other workgroups sleep in their own beds each night. Other workgroups often work the same hours daily. Other workgroups have breaks to eat, and not all of them are constantly exposed to the germs circulated over and over again in the cabin air.
The Base Presidents will never sign off or agree to any type of Company policy that issues discipline to our membership, and we certainly will voice our absolute disgust at the lack of respect for our Flight Attendants that accompanies this attendance policy. Implementing an inhumane and unrealistic attendance and performance policy at a time when the Company should be focused on fixing their scheduling and IT problems is the most ridiculous thing we have seen to date.
Our membership deserves better. We will need all hands on deck. Participate in our membership action events. Put on your APFA Pins and join us in the battle. We are not going to be able to do this alone. If you need an APFA pin please contact the APFA Membership Department at 817-540-0108, extension 8153.
