Euless, TX (Sept. 1)Â As we approach Labor Day, a day set aside not only to honor the men and women who are working every day on behalf of their families and loved ones, we honor the labor movement and labor organizations that have positively shaped the American workplace. Historically, APFA supports candidates who have fought for issues of importance to our union members such as safety issues on the airplane, Flight Attendant fatigue, cabin air quality and fair compensation for a fair day of work.
In honor of this holiday, APFA announces the endorsement of two Senatorial candidates whose records and values align with those of working people, Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Beto O’Rourke of Texas.
APFA is proud to endorse Beto O’Rourke, a 4th generation Texan with a proven record of fighting for the middle class on issues that make a difference to working people. “APFA urges its members to get behind the candidacy of Beto for Senator of Texas,” said APFA National President Lori Bassani.
“Claire McCaskill of Missouri has been a long-time friend of Flight Attendant rights and the labor movement. She is a strong candidate for the middle class, and led the winning fight for the repeal of the Right-to-Work law in Missouri. Claire is a great choice for Senator of Missouri,” Bassani continued.
“My thanks to APFA for the endorsement and for their continued dedication to supporting workers’ rights in Texas and across the country,” said Beto O’Rourke. “At a time when labor rights are under attack, we need leaders like APFA to bring us together so we can fight for jobs that pay a living wage, fair protections for employees and judicial appointments that will safeguard civil rights.”
Commenting on the endorsement, Senator McCaskill said “I am proud to stand with the hard-working Flight Attendants represented by the APFA. Throughout my career, I have always fought to strengthen workers’ rights and improve workplace safety for the men and women who labor through long days to make our country better. I’m grateful to have the APFA as an ally in that fight.”
APFA will endorse other Pro-Flight Attendant and Pro-Labor Candidates leading up to election day and we urge all members to participate in Local and National politics to enact positive change.
