10.12.18 – BOD Training and Meeting Recap
The Annual APFA BOD training and meeting was held in Dallas, Texas on October 8-10, 2018. Training included APFA’s history with former National President and retired American Flight Attendant, Patt A. Gibbs, strategic bargaining and membership mobilization with labor attorney Mark Richard, and a pictorial history of our Union through the years by APFA’s archivist, Sally Prater.
The Board was introduced to APFA’s new In-House Counsel, Susannah Bender. For a more complete bio of Ms. Bender, please log on to APFA’s website under The Weekly Scoop hotline.
The National Department Chairs provided an update from their respective departments which included hotel relocations, contract and scheduling issues, retirement, health and IOD, EAP and Professional Standards. Government Affairs discussed the FAA Reauthorization Bill. You will receive dedicated hotlines with more detailed information from various departments.
Many issues were brought forth, including:
- Shaving of scheduled flying times (LAX)
- Early Boarding (DFW)
- 4 Day Trips (CLT)
- Sick Time (LAX)
- The interim STL President added a new agenda item entitled “Seniority Integration.” The resolution did not receive a second, therefore it was not considered for a vote.
- Long time union advocate Lenny Aurigemma was nominated for and will receive the Union’s highest honor, the Martha W. Griffith’s Award, at the APFA convention in Boston next year.
APFA has appointed two new National Negotiators. Please join us in welcoming them to the committee:
Mario St. Michel (LAX), Presidential appointment
Monica Wilfong (PHX), Board appointment
The Board of Director’s meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm, Wednesday, October 10th, 2018.
Full minutes of the Fall BOD meeting will be available on the APFA website within 30 days.
The National Officers and the APFA Board of Directors wish to thank our members and Union reps who attended the Fall training and meeting.
