Association of Professional Flight Attendant Leaders call on President Trump to Avoid another Government Shutdown
Euless, TX (Feb. 7)—-The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA), American Airlines’ mainline Flight Attendant Union representing almost 28,000 members called on President Trump and Congress today to avoid another federal government shutdown at all costs.
Calling the previous 35-day shutdown “ill-conceived, unnecessary, and a dangerous security risk,” Lori Bassani, National President of APFA continued, “if another shutdown occurs, all aviation organizations should weigh the safety implications and act accordingly.”
APFA’s Executive Committee, made up of nine elected Flight Attendant Union leaders voted unanimously to oppose a second shutdown and to demand a comprehensive solution.
Statement by APFA Executive Committee:
The APFA Executive Committee unanimously passed a resolution urging in the strongest possible terms that the President and Congress turn away from another government shutdown. The last 35-day shutdown was ill-considered and may have put the flying public and our members at increased risk. Many safety and security professionals were under great stress and were expected to work without pay. If the shutdown commences we urge all aviation stakeholders to carefully weigh the potential increased risk and prepare to act accordingly.
