ICAO Sets the Tone on Air Rage

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to promoting safe and orderly civil aviation throughout the world. This week, as part of the Montreal Protocol of 2014, ICAO released new guidance for preventing and managing unruly and disruptive passengers. This guidance is intended to help governments and policymakers address unruly passengers under their own national laws. The Protocol requires two more countries to formalize their ratification before its official enactment.

Filing an Injury on Duty (IOD)

Q: How do I file/report an IOD?

A: Flight Attendants will file an IOD 24/7 by calling 1-844-777-8463.
Calls will be answered by a registered nurse who will assess and recommend appropriate medical care options, complete the report regarding your IOD and the nurse will send you the AA IOD Pamphlet.

You are NOT required to follow the nurse’s recommendations, you are free to seek medical treatment.  Advise the registered nurse of your intention.

Q:  Is the Company required to take a report if I become sick or injured at work?

A: Yes, the company must take the report from the employee. In some states, the Company can be fined if they do not take the report or if the injured employee files a complaint with the state.

Reporting

When filling out reports, ensure the information provided is accurate.  All the systems- TTS, UBL, PBS, ROTA and ROTD generate separate reports.  Our search in a ROTA report will not produce any results if the issue was with ROTD; TTS will not produce any results if the mis-award claim was in PBS or UBL.  Please also verify your employee number and email are correct.  Verifying this information assists us in researching your claim.
