Hong Kong Civil Unrest
As you are aware, there are currently protests and some civil unrest in the greater Hong Kong area. The airport has been a focus for demonstrators for the past few days.
All crewmembers that are currently laying over in HKG are accounted for and are safe. All arriving crews are being met by station management for an arrival briefing – which provides additional details as well as contact information for the appropriate parties who may lend a hand if needed. In addition, APFA Safety & Security has been in contact with Corporate Security, APFA Leadership and Flight Service frequently as we continue to monitor the situation on Hong Kong and Lantau Islands.
HKG-DFW flying has been operating as scheduled without issue; the HKG-LAX departure has been moved up earlier in the day to avoid predicted protesters, causing a delay for the departure today and for tomorrow’s operation.
The airport authority in HKG is assisting with crew arrival and departures from the airport to/from the hotel and maintains contact with HKG station personnel. Contingency plans are in place, if needed, if operational disruptions occur.
We will continue to be in contact with Corp Sec, APFA Leadership and Flight Service – providing updates as the conditions warrant.
