APFA Special Board of Directors Meeting
The APFA Board of Directors (BOD) convened for a Special Meeting today in Ft. Worth, TX. After receiving information based on extensive research, the BOD confirmed there was a deviation from past practice in interpreting the policies with respect to three previous National Officers and their payouts. The BOD also determined that the overpayments to these officers should be recovered and that APFA be made whole. The National Treasurer’s Department along with an outside auditor and legal will verify the calculations for collection of the overpayments. These collected payments will be reflected on next year’s LM-2 filing.
In another matter, the BOD updated the APFA Policy Manual so that representatives on full-time removal are in compliance with the JCBA. This means that representatives will not be paid more than the JCBA allows for a line Flight Attendant. As a background, there are two scenarios where an APFA representative will be removed from a trip(s) to work for the union; Pay Purposes Only (PPO) bidding – also known as full-time trip removal; or Trip-by-Trip (TbT) removal. A representative that will perform union work for an entire month will PPO bid. This will allow another Flight Attendant to hold these trips. TbT removals are used when a representative is not performing a full month of union work (e.g. special project, testify at an arbitration). PPO bidding is the preferred method, as TbT removals are dropped into open time and could increase the percentage for that day. More information about how representatives are paid can be found in the APFA Policy Manual available on APFA.org.Full minutes and text from Resolutions considered at today’s meeting will be available on APFA.org within 30 days from the close of the meeting.
We were happy to see APFA members attending today’s meeting, and we encourage all members in good standing to attend union meetings when your schedule permits.
In Unity,
Lisabeth Hillman
APFA National Secretary
