DFW Concerns
January has a major schedule change on the seventh. The reduction in flying after the schedule change will result in limited service to some destinations and cancellations to accommodate the pull-down in the schedule. Pairings may appear inconsistent with flying concentrated on peak days throughout the month. Some of the desirable flying we lost after the schedule change was the domestic and NIPD wide body turns. Many Flight Attendants enjoyed flying these turns and we requested additional domestic and NIPD wide body flying in the future.
Other concerns we discussed included the overall quality of the pairings. Many pairings work three legs a day on multiple days. We once again voiced our opposition to the number of pairings that now have a “victory lap” on the last day of the sequence. A “victory lap” is when DFW Flight Attendants return to base on the last day of their trip and have to sit for two or more hours to fly a turn to complete their trip. We have asked the company for adjustments in optimizer programming to limit these difficult and unpopular pairings.
We continue to ask for a reduction in four day trips, decrease in sit-time, commutable two and three-day trips and an increase in high time two days and high time turns. IPD flying has been impacted as well after the schedule change. London will operate three flights a day (departure times vary). The late Madrid, Paris, HNL and OGG flights are discontinued as a part of the reduction in flying.
