DFW Concerns
On February 13th an operational schedule change will affect our pairings, as you will see more in the second half of the month that werenāt previously available. March will beginĀ theĀ Spring seasonal flying with some flights returning to DFW.
The base continues to advocate for turns, in particular, high time turns. We have stressed to the company that many Flight Attendants count on the flexibility of turns to tend to family obligations. Turns are down system-wide in February. We increased pressure on the optimizer programming to improve the turns with limited success. A major programming change for February is a minimum twelve-hour layover scheduled in Hub cities. Due to this change, layovers twelve hours and greater have increased to 84.2% of all pairings. This is a significant improvement. Layovers eleven hours or less are 8.8% for February, which is the lowest since December 2018. The longer layovers have a good news/bad news scenario. Most of these trips have an early report on the first day and then a late return on the third day.
The base has maintained a good mix of short and long layover pairings to choose from overall. We continue to discuss the overall quality of pairings and the lack of desirability regarding sequences that work three legs a day on multiple days of a trip. This is an ongoing issue that has impacted our base for some time. We continue to advocate for high time turns and two-day trips, commutable two- and three-day trips and a variety of report times. We plan to tweak the programming for March. Feedback is encouraged regarding this change at the designated email address provided below.
